Work Exchange

有機農業のファームステイ体験

Very simply you can spend your vacation working on a tropical Hawaiian orange orchard.  Or you can volunteer for longer periods of time, typically 4 to 6 months.  You would be housed in our work exchange hostel southpointhostel.com with cooking, bathing, and 2 to 4 bunk bed dorm type sleeping accomodations in exchange for 25 hours work per week.  For more work per week there are some private rooms sometimes available.

We supply simple nutritious staple food for you to cook.  Please note that staple food is like onions but not scallions or leeks.  Luxurious food like scallions, leeks, steaks, etc., you would provide.

Because your mother doesn’t live here you need to clean up after your self.  That means you need to wash your dishes after you finish eating - not 2 or 3 hours later.  That also means you take turns with the other people sweeping, mopping, and general cleaning.  You do not get paid to clean up after yourself or to clean the common areas.

Very simply you should bring summer weight type work clothing.  Work clothing should be self explanatory but we had one 24 year old lady here that was angry because we didn’t tell her to bring socks.  Well, if you need to be told to bring socks or underwear or some other normal clothing then you shouldn’t come here.

We are a drug free facility with verification by drug testing.  By coming here you consent to initial and on going drug testing.  If you fail our drug test then you can’t stay here.

This is a family owned and operated farm.  Morton & Keiko Bassan trademarked Ka’u Gold and Ka’u brand oranges, tangeloes, and tangerines in 1981.  Mort & Keiko still own and operate their farm.
